our founder

Mauro has spent his entire career in the global timber trade, working closely with hardwood suppliers in Southeast Asia and buyers across Europe.

After decades of navigating the industry’s traditional processes, he recognised a simple truth: timber world needed a smarter, more transparent way to connect.

This vision spurred him to build Catastico, a next-generation digital timber marketplace. Supported and co-financed by the Kärntner Wirtschaftsförderungs Fonds (KWF), Project Catastico.eu is building technology that brings structure, trust, and efficiency into a historically fragmented sector.

With Catastico, Mauro aims to modernise how hardwood is bought and sold, creating a platform where verified Southeast Asian suppliers and global buyers can meet, transact, and manage documentation seamlessly.

Guided by Mauro’s deep roots in the tropical timber trade, Catastico represents the future of timber commerce: connected, reliable, and built for the global market.

our vision: where heritage meets technology

The inspiration behind Catastico goes back centuries - to the Republic of Venice.

A Legacy Few Know

During the 16th–17th centuries, Venice depended on inland forests to source high-quality timber for its warships. To protect this precious resource, the Serenissima introduced revolutionary forest-management practices, limiting extraction to what nature could naturally regenerate. The original Catastico was the official register of these inland woods, documenting species, origins, transport routes, and sustainable harvesting limits.

This meticulous approach: “take only what nature can renew,” formed the foundation of one of the world’s longest-lived republics.
